Our Festive Guide: Go Green this Christmas

OUR FESTIVE GUIDE:

Go Green this Christmas

It’s that time of year when we start thinking about Christmas gifts, decorating our homes and just generally keeping the kids busy. It also happens to be a season of increased waste and excess so we wanted to pull together some quick tips that will help you be a little more green this festive season.

Choose Eco-Friendly alternatives to the traditional Christmas wrapping paper that tends to be non-recyclable. Use newspapers and magazines to create patchwork wrapping paper or even regular brown paper that is recyclable. You can also save and reuse any paper, bags or ribbons you receive. Alternatively you can use scarfs or old scraps of material - a practice known as Furoshiki

If you are stocking up on new decorations, choose ones that are made from materials that will last a lifetime like fabric or glass instead of plastic. Go the extra mile and create all your own decorations this year and make it an activity for the whole family. Little City Tales always has fantastic craft ideas that can be adapted especially for decorations!

Consider sustainable gifting this year. We've listed some of our favourite local spots here in Singapore where you can find the perfect gifts for family and friends: The Green Collective, The Sustainability Project, Little Eco Joys, Oasis Skin, Rough BeautyUnpackt, and  Retykle New With Tags.

Wondering about how you will keep the kids busy this festive season? Work on some crafts at home to get their creative juices flowing. If you've got some leftover Retykle boxes, here is a great crafting activity for your little tykes.

DIY your Christmas! Head over to our favourite DIY platform, Collective Gen, to learn all about the best hacks including this festive DIY Macramé Mini Christmas Tree. Collective Gen's creative Founder Geneva even has a DIY book out that would make the perfect Christmas gift!

Give back this year and do well not only for the environment but for the community around you. With some fantastic organisations here in Singapore including Babes and One Singapore, consider volunteering your time, donating goods in kind or offering financial aid. Even a small step collectively can have a significant impact! Meet the Retykle charity partners here and get involved.
